The feet, perhaps, is the most worn out part of the body. We use our feet to walk to distances. We use them to run races, or jog our way to health. We use them to run towards loved ones, or away from enemies. Without them, going through the activities of daily living could be way too hard.

Since the feet is mostly used, it needs to be protected. Before, people had to walk around barefooted that is why they usually suffer from splinters and other injuries sustained on foot. It was not long after that people gotten round to make protective clothing for the feet. People made shoes, slippers, sandals, stilettos and toggi boots to provide comfort and fashion simultaneously.

Boots are classified under shoes. They also cover the entire feet and even some parts of the lower leg. There are even other designs that reach as high up as the knee. They come in all styles, colors, patterns, and designs. They are typically worn with the pants tucked inside them. One will usually see this kind worn by equestrian and other people who work with quadrupeds.

Originally, they were used by those who work around horses. They were then called riding boots and are usually made of leather. Some reach the knee, some only reach mid calf. They feature different types of catch for them to be closed around the foot. The really dressy ones are laced up. Those who can not be bothered by such intricacies use those that have zippers at the back.

Jodhpur types as designed for riding equines. They are classified under the riding boot category. They have rounded toes and low heels. But, the most characteristic part of the jodhpurs is that it features a strap that wrap around the ankle and is fastened by a buckle.

Cowboy boots can be quite high, but not as high as those intended for horse enthusiasts. Whereas the riding counterpart is made primarily of leather, cowboy ones are not. They also tend to be more colorful and can have varied designs. Most bear insignias, American flags, and paisley patterns. They also come in all sort of colors that reflect the fun personality of most country folk.

Wellingtons are also extremely popular. They are attributed to the man who, according to history, first wore them. The Duke of Wellington is said to be the designer of these said apparel as well. Today, they are known to the public as rubber boots, though some are made out of flexible PVC material.

Sailing ones, as the name suggests, are designed specially for sailors. They are waterproof to prevent all the seawater from coming in and wetting the feet. They are also designed to have the best grips because the surfaces where a sailor often walks upon are wet, which makes them prone to slipping.

Mules are also known as half shoes. They have closed front appearances, just like a slipper, and yet they are open at the back, like a slipper. They were avoided by most because they were originally linked to prostitutes, but are now socially acceptable. Chaps, in an altogether different light, are leather coverings used mainly by cowgirls and boys. They are worn over the pants to protect them when riding out on a horse.
